Water Remediation FAQs

– What causes water damage?

Water damage can be caused by many different things: sink, tub or toilet overflow, appliance leaks, burst pipes, plumbing leaks, flooding from natural disasters and more.

-How long will it take my property to dry?

Drying time is determined by a combination of factors, including the location, duration and source of water, the types of building materials, the weather conditions and how quickly emergency services begin. Through consistent monitoring and evaluation of the drying process, we can determine when the drying is complete. Your carpet may feel dry to the touch but padding and subfloors may still be wet underneath.

-Should I file a claim with my insurance company?

It all depends on the extent of the damage. For minor damage, filing an insurance claim may raise your premium higher than you may be comfortable with. But if the damage is severe enough, the risk of paying more annually may be justified.

-Do you work with my insurance company?

Yes, we work with all insurance carriers, and we can provide direct insurance billing.

-Can water damage be hidden? If so, what are signs?

Yes – water damage can remain hidden for days on end. You won’t notice the damage until it worsens. The signs of water damage include unpleasant, mildew-like odor, slight stains on the walls and ceilings, peeling paint, warped flooring and mold growth.

– How long do restoration projects usually take?

Every project is different based on the extent of water damage. The amount of water that was in the home will determine the length of the restoration process.

Mold remediation FAQs

-What is mold remediation?

Mold remediation is the process used to thoroughly remove mold, eliminate odors, sanitize the area and restore healthy air to residential and commercial properties.

-What is the difference between mold and mildew?

Mold and mildew are in the same family of fungi. The difference is that mold must be professionally remediated to fully remove it from your property, while mildew can simply be wiped away. Mold spreads easily and can be dangerous to your health, so expert assistance is always recommended.

-Do I need to hire a mold remediation/removal expert to remove mold, or can I do it myself?

Due to the dangers of mold, we advise you to leave the removal to us. The inhalation of mold spores can lead to adverse health effects and long-term illness.

-How long does it take to remove mold?

The time it takes to remove mold is determined on a case-by-case basis. It all depends on the size and location of the infestation.

-How long does it take mold to grow or spread?

Mold can begin to develop in as little as 24 hours, then spread to multiple parts of your home. It’s imperative to stay on top of mold and call for remediation as soon as it’s spotted.

Fire FAQ’s

-What is the first thing I should do after a fire?

After the firefighters have put out the flames, the first thing to do is ensure that you, your family members and your pets (if any) are all safe. After individuals have received medical attention (if any), it is highly recommended to call a fire damage restoration company immediately to begin restoring your home. Fire-damaged buildings are often unstable and there is still the possibility of a subsequent fire igniting. During this waiting phase, we would consider that you and your family find a place to stay temporarily.

-What are some safety concerns?

At Next Level Restoration, occupant and worker safety is our top priority. During the initial inspection, safety hazards are identified and addressed, including debris removal, air quality, electrical hazards, slip and trip hazards, etc. Burnt electrical cords and appliances are separated out for disposal and questionable electrical appliances are unplugged and tagged for evaluation of safe operation. Electrical power may be turned off and kept off until evaluation by a licensed electrician is completed.

-How do I secure my home after a fire?

If the recent fire has damaged your doors, windows and roof, your fire and smoke damage restoration company can install board-ups and tarp covers to protect your home from theft or further damage.

-How long will the fire restoration process take?

Because there are many variables and many services involved in fire and smoke restoration, it is difficult to predict exactly how long the complete restoration will take. Consulting with your Restoration Project Manager on the estimated dates and phases of your restoration project.

-Can I turn on my heating and air conditioning unit?

We recommend that you not turn on your furnace or air conditioning unit without clearance from our HVAC team.

-Can smoke damage be removed?

Smoke and soot damage on floor, walls, ceilings and other surfaces can be stubborn, but they can be removed. Companies specializing in fire and smoke damage repair generally do take steps to make your property safe and healthy again. They are as follows:

*Remove floor coverings to keep soot and dust from settling on the floor

*Use specialized cleaning products and odor counteractants to treat odor and contamination

*Clean, repair or replace the HVAC system to restore indoor air quality
